For Those Left Behind... (D3, Late Morning)

[Faily]

Hunya was prepared to give a little extra help today to those who did poorly on their test.

[Mir]

Well, Mir was there, his ears still flat against his skill. This wasn't going to be fun, but then again, none of the masters seemed to think that being jedi was particularly fun. Maybe this would be an educational occasion.

[Faily]

It seemed there would only be one left behind this time, and Hunya cleared her throat.

"Seems like it will be just the two of us then, Mir," she said in an effort to sound friendly, but it came out a bit awkward. And she quickly looked away to check her datapad to look at Mir's results once more. "I feel I have failed a bit as a teacher and one who tries to spread knowledge that a student did so poorly... but, we'll see what we can do to fix that, yes?"

[Mir]

"Uuh." Mir gulped, his ears flat against his skull. "I am so so sorry. I tried but there's just too much. Like the whole archive!" The young farghul exclaimed. "And there was all the other stuff to learn."

[Faily]

"It's alright. Each student must start from somewhere," she said calmly to the kitten. "And you have had a bit rougher start than most. That you've come so far in such a short time is impressive, student Mir."

The togruta glanced to her stack of texts. "Is there something you would like to know more about specifically than other subjects? That might be the best place to continue..."

[Mir]

"Uuh." Mir's tail swooshed against the floor. He was being praised! Not that was entirely sure why. He'd fluked the test after all. "Well. There was no archives on Doloran."

"Everything." He noted, eagerness gleaming in his blue eyea. "But we might not have enough time for that. Uhh.. where do the Shit... no Sith come from? And why do we care?"

[Faily]

"Everything," she chuckled heartily. "A student after my own heart. I too want to learn everything."

She cleared her throat to answer the more serious question. "Well, the Sith as a species are native to the planet Korriban, in the Outer Rim. The first documented encounter with them was when a group of exiled Jedi came to their planet, and realised that the natives, albeit primitive, had a strong connection to the Dark side of the Force - indeed, all of Korriban is deeply seeped in its power. The Sith species today are descendants of those exiles and the original Sith, so they are a hybrid of sorts."

Hunya paused so as to not overwhelm the poor cat. "And through those generations of inter-breeding and learning more on how to wield their powers from those Jedi and their students, the Sith have become in many ways the dark mirror of the Jedi. Where the Jedi seek to protect, the Sith seek to destroy. The Jedi try to liberate, the Sith try to enslave. They are ruthless and dangerous, and now command a great Empire."

[Mir]

"Uh-huh." Mir nodded. "I have heard of the Dark Side. We don't ever go there, right." he asked, wanting to be right for once. "So... if they only seek to destroy, why do we let them live? Should we not bomb their planet or something. We've got enough evil folks as is."

[Faily]

"We recommend against going there, yes. The Dark Side is... well, it's not a physical place. Think of it more as a state of mind - the one where you think only of yourself and your own needs, and that you are willing to hurt or kill others to get what you want. To live without empathy or compassion for others. For us who are so strongly attuned to the Force, like you and me, and others who are Force sensitive, such a state can deterioate both mind and body... kind of like a rot from inside." Hunya pursed her lips in thought for a moment. "It's often a slippery slope to go there though... many of those who have fallen to the Dark Side have often done so out of a belief that they are doing what is right."

She sighed softly. "As for the Sith, the answer is more complex than the question. The Sith Empire have citizens that are not Force sensitives, nor part of their ruling class. Is it right to expose them to war because of the Sith themselves?"

[Mir]

"Uh, so. What if I need to protect others. Many others." Mir raised his paws before her, all of his digits up in the air. "And to do that I need to kill someone. Say, a sith. But if I want to kill him to save all those people, then I am killing someone to get what I want. How that can be bad?" Mir tilted his head, confused. "Or is that fine because we have concern for the many? How many is enough? One?" Now he was asking the hard questions.

"Uh, I guess not? We could send spies to poison or stab them? The sith that is, not the civilians." Mir suggested with a feral grin on his face.

[Faily]

"Most would say you are doing a selfless act by putting yourself in harm's way like that, facing a Sith. They are rather... intimidating opponents. My advice to you if you meet one in the near future, is to not engage them," the togruta cautioned the young farghul. "As for how many is enough... what do you feel? These are questions that have no clear answers, and I cannot really help you find them."

She shook her head with some dismay at not being able to provide him with easy answers. "What I can do is to teach you more about the Order and the Republic."

[Mir]

The two spent the rest of the hour discussing the particularities of the Republic - without Mir bringing up a sneaky death as solution to any problems. Well, he did bring it up once when Hunya mentioned corrupt politicians but once he properly understood how senators were selected he dropped that line of though.
