[D0 A] Emotion, yet Peace

[Eir]

“Everyone succeeds, one way or another,” she explained, “you can’t flunk at being a Force user.” A thought occurred to her, “have you read the Breech Conflict holonovels? In the first one, it’s apprentice day and all the kids are picked by the various tradespeople to start their careers? Think of the trails like that. Not everyone gets picked to be a padawan, some will be librarians or diplomats or scientists.”

[Mir]

"Well, no. But you can become a not-jedi. And that's hardly a success. I mean, they say it's not a failure, but it's not exactly roaring success either, is it?" He leaned a little towards the girl. "Breach Conflict?" Mir managed to mishear Eir. "Can't say I have. I mostly try to catch up on... things. History and such." there was a hint of annoyance in his voice - annoyance that melded with forlornness. "No idea what I'd be if I wasn't jedi. Maybe I could become a hero."

[Eir]

“Then don’t fail,” she huffed, finally losing patience. “If being a Knight is that important.” There were worse things than not being a Jedi Knight.

[Mir]

"I don't plan to." he nodded, now slowly sounding more determined. "You think you'll do well?"

[Eir]

“I dunno,” she shrugged, “I won’t know what I’m good at until I know what I’m expected to do.”

[Mir]

"I have this feeling they're going to make us do we suck at. Something something teach a lesson." Mir held his paw up in the air as he if he was delivering a lecture. "You should keep the code in your mind, but also to you heart, younglings."

[Eir]

“I’m bad at plenty of things, that doesn’t narrow the options down much. At this point, I’m kinda hoping they do shoot at us, that’s something I’ve practiced at least.” Where the farghul was animated and expressive, gesturing as he spoke, Eir was quite still, hand resting next to her training saber.

[Mir]

"Speak for yourself. Though, pretty sure they'll have us do different things. Facing your fears and such. What do you fear, Eir?"

[Eir]

“Fear?” She hadn’t really thought about it. “I wouldn’t like to have to face down a rancor, or twenty guys with weapons and my back against a wall.”

[Mir]

"Rancor's pretty scary. Still don't think they'd take us to a rancor's cave. Would maybe like to see one. From distance." Mir admitted, his ears perking. "I also want to see a Krayt Dragon one day. You know Shien is sometimes called the Way of the Krayt Dragon?"

[Eir]

“I am perfectly happy seeing rancors on holovids, and never ever in person.” Gazing balefully at Mir, “yes, I had heard that.”

[Mir]

"I would want to see them alive." he grinned. "Not too close. I don't want to get chomped in half." there was a hint of fear in his tone. "Say, what was your home world like?"

[Eir]

“Arkania?” Eir had never been to the Arkanian’s adopted home world, but Mir didn’t need to know that. “Cold, very, very cold. But very, very beautiful. Outside the cities is ice and snow as far as the eye can see, it’s so pristine.”

[Mir]

"Doloran was cold too. And windy. Not that I was born there but." He reached to adjust his collar that sat below the mangy hair of his neck. "Never seen Farfin." Mir admitted, sounding sullen, looking down as he did so. "I hate cold. When you are out there, hours after hours, your paws stiff and the wind chilling you to the bone. Not much beauty either. Just junk. Heaps of junk." Looking back at Eir he continued. "You know, Coruscant is the most beautiful place I've ever seen."

[Eir]

Eir looked around, as if seeing her surroundings for the first time. “It’s okay, I guess. The air tastes better up here.” She wondered what the recycled air of the Arkanian cities was like, if it carried that same, acrid polluted taste that she couldn’t seem to get rid of, even after nine years living on the upper levels.

[Mir]

"Well. I guess that makes you lucky." there was very little emotion in his voice. "Life just isn't fair."

[Eir]

“Huh?” she seemed to return from some distant thought. “No, I mean, like Coruscant’s just different. I’ve been here at the temple for nine years, so it’s pretty much all I remember.” She left out the part about how Coruscant would always remind her of the lower levels, no matter how pretty certain parts were.

[Mir]

"I was a slave before I was brought here." There wasn't much else to say. "Life here is something I couldn't imagine."

[Eir]

"Oh," she didn't have an answer for that. Whatever she was before joining the Order, she'd had her freedom.

[Mir]

"Yeah. I mean, sometimes the masters have you brush a floor that's already been brushed. But at least you get fed. And you have a warm place to sleep in." Mir explained nonchalantly. "Pretty much a heaven for a stray." he turned to look at the tower. "All because a jedi bumped into me. Literally. You see, I tried to sense if he was trying to kill me."
