[Day 4 - LM] Killik Me Softly

[Byron Mik]

Byron searched out the police or security forces to look into the matter he saw on the local news. Something about Killiks and murder or something he did not catch all the details but it sounded like a situation a Jedi should investigate in case it got worse before it got better.

He walked into the office and looked for someone to speak to.

[Faily]

At the police station, local law enforcement was currently having a verbal kerfluffle with some people wearing bright red armbands that said "Defenders of Dewbright".

"We have a right to know!" one of them, seeming to be the leader of the group, shouted at the police officer.
"I'm s-sorry, sir, but w-we can't release names and de-details about the missing people without pe-pe-permission from their next of kin," the young man stuttered out as he stood his ground.

[Byron Mik]

Byron approached calmly and said, “Greetings, I’m with the Jedi Order, I heard about missing peoples and tensions between the locals and the Killiks, I was hoping to lend a hand.”

[Faily]

"Oh..." the police officer looked a bit relieved that someone seemed calm and friendly at least. "C-c-certainly, sir... uhm..." he looked back at the group. "P-please excuse me."

He gingerly stepped away from them, squeezing slightly between them and the desk as he made his way to Byron. "R-right this way, sir!"

[Byron Mik]

Byron followed calmly, "I hope I am not interfering in your duties, officer."

"Just want to lend a hand and head off a situation before it gets any worse."

[Faily]

"Oh... oh, no no, not at all, sir," the young man assured Byron as he led him through an office door. And heaved a great sigh of relief once he closed it. "I-I should thank you, for arriving when you did. P-p-people have been very pushy the past days."

He took off his cap and ran a hand through his messy hair. "R-right, the Killiks, you said? I-i-it's a weird situation, really..."

[Byron Mik]

“I am willing to listen; patience and listening are two things where Jedi excel. Take your time and give me what you can on the situation it seems to have ignited something of a conflict that is threatening the peace,” he responded.

[Faily]

"R-right. Right." He cleared his throat and put his cap back on. "So uhm... I think the reports say that they've b-b-been here for a-b-bout a month. Or so. No-not long after, w-w-we had some disappearances happening. A-a-and it's been more the last week."

The young man shook his head. "I-I-I don't know if it's the K-killiks doing it. N-no one really wants to approach them..."

[Byron Mik]

"Where can I find the Killiks if I wanted to reach them, and who vanished, and anyone I can talk to about that? I plan to speak with the angry folks outside as well, is there someone in charge?" he responded calmly.

[Faily]

"Uh, th-they're outside of town. Like... an hour drive, m-m-maybe, with speeder, that is." He took the moment to straighten his tie a little and compose himself. "I-I-I don't recommend g-going there. Th-they don't seem to like us f-f-folks."

Luckily there was air conditioning in the building at least otherwise the young officer would've been pouring sweat.

"A-as for the missing p-people, w-w-we have a b-board with s-some of the missing pe-people, but we can't gi-give out personal information with-with-without the permission from the-their next of kin, sir." He gave Byron a look of sympathy. "Th-their leader, u-u-unofficially, is Luc Jierre. He w-was the one you saw out th-there when you c-came in."

[Byron Mik]

"I will check out the Killiks from a safe distance and speak with this Luc, anything else you can add before I begin?" he said calmly trying to show both compassion and competence.

[Faily]

"Uh..." he wiped his brow even if there was no sweat there. "B-be careful, sir? K-k-killiks are... weird. Not like people. W-we c-c-can't take responsibility if a-anything happens to you."

[Byron Mik]

"I'm a Jedi, I will use the utmost caution, may the Force be with you," he said warmly and then left and made his way back to the angry crowd. He approached calmly and said, "I am a Jedi, is there anything I can do to help?"

[Faily]

The tall blonde with a tight-fitting shirt and wearing the Defenders of Dewbright-armband was the one Byron had seen earlier, and he seemed to be waiting for someone to come back out from the office.



"Jedi?" he looked a bit calmer now as he gave Byron a glance. "Does this mean you are here to eradicate that insect-infestation?"

[Byron Mik]

“It means I am here to investigate the issue and see if we can find a resolution to the issue whatever it may be, you can call me Byron. You must be Luc, then?” he replied calmly.

“I was told some people have gone missing and many believe the Killiks are involved, any information you can give will help this investigation.”

Byron could feel the thoughts for a moment but he would need to press his anger at the harsh words to find anything and relented before the darkened tendrils penetrated the cloudy thoughts.

[Faily]

It was hard to get a read on the man, or the situation, as the air still seemed tense with anger and frustration...

"Luc Jierre, yes," he nodded and offered a hand to shake to Byron. "It's been quite the upset to our local community that friends, family, and neighbours have gone missing. My own wife, Lya, went missing two weeks ago..." his face tensed as he spoke, but otherwise he kept his cool. "I don't know what to say, really, other than that someone should torch down those Killik mounds. All these disappearances started after they came here. I heard someone got taken by them and was... brainwashed, or something. It's horrid."

[Byron Mik]

Byron listened and replied, “Your loss is horrific, Luc, you have my condolences. Do you know what your wife was doing when she was taken? The killiks don’t seem the type to come into the city, that does not mean it could not happen. And you mentioned someone was brainwashed, do you know who it was?”

[Faily]

"My wife was last seen leaving work. She works in the sea-side facilities as a research-assistant. And... she never made it home. It's not the first or the last of such disappearances," Luc said with a heavy heart.

Another man in the group spoke up. "My neighbour went out there to find his son, and the Killiks made him into some shuffling drone of some kind!"

[Byron Mik]

“I see, so the killiks took him captive? Are the sea-side facilities near the killik hives? I just want to get a sense of things being new here I have a great deal of catching up to do, I apologize if I seem questioning, I just want a complete picture of the situation,” he responded.

[Faily]

"Aye they did!" he said firmly.

Luc put a calming hand on the man's shoulder. "There are various facilities along the coast. My wife works at the one on the city limits so it is closer to the city than the Killiks. But they are probably expanding in search of more food and places to build their nests, I'd guess."
