Spiked Lines (Day 7 Mid Afternoon, Sand!)

[Mir]

"Yus, pull the fishie out, pull the fishie out!" Mir cheered dropping his own pole on the rocks as he watched Silas and Esla struggle with their catch. Well Silas' catch. But in Mir's books it was also Esla's catch as she was helping.

With Silas at lost with what to do, Mir reached for his knife and grabbed the thrashing fish (leaving few hairs on the scales) and pinned it against a rock and then duly rammed the butt of his knife against the head of the fish. Fish bone crunched and an eye plopped out. The fish stopped moving. "Good job!" the farghul quipped, lifting his thumb up. "Uh, I guess I can clean the fish..." Mir was licking his lips. "Maybe Zanja can take my rod meanwhile?"

[Zanja]

"Sure." Zanja shrugged and reached for the rod, favoring the dead fish with a pleased and distinctly carnivorous stare. "Clean it like take the guts out, you mean?"

That has been rather more violent then Silas had been expecting, but this was the way of things. If you wanted to eat fish you had to kill them. Seeing Zanja Step up beside him he offered the Zabrak girl a smile. "How many more do you think we'll need?" He asked, taking a chance to move toward the cooler to get a drink.

"Did you want something to drink, Mir?"

[Mir]

"Yeah." Mir grabbed the now very-much-dead fish and flopped it on it back, plunging his knife behind its gills and yanking it's head off. Then he duly proceeded to pick up the head and tossed it in his mouth, happily chewing on it as he cut the fish's belly open, scooping out all the internal organs. Then he began digging through the guts as if he was looking for something. The others could likely hear the crunching sounds from his mouth.

"I'm fine, thanks!" Mir replied, his mouth full of fish. "I'll grab it later."

Silas wasn't all that squeamish, but that was almost a bit much for him, so turning away he grabbed one of the drinkss. The man at the fishing shop had thrown in the bottles of Island Cooler when he found out that Silas was a jedi, but he didn't want to risk trying one of those just yet, not with Mir chewing on a fish head. So he picked up a bottle water instead.

"Ok! I'll um leave you to it." The young man offered as he moved back to his fishing pole. "Just call if you need anything."

[Zanja]

"One for each of us? Depends. How hungry are you? Uh...and is it good all raw like that?" Even Zanja sounded a little doubtful, holding the rod she'd just re-cast but paying more attention to the fish-cleaning procedure. She might need to clean a fish herself sometime, after all.

Popping open the water bottle Silas took a swig before setting it to the side and picking the rod back up. "So three more then?" Maybe more, Mir looked pretty hungry after all. "I think we can do that!"

His eyes turned to Esla and he offered her a smile. "Want a turn pretty soon?"

[Esla Tor]

"Oh!" Esla explained how at efficient and brutal Mir was with dispatching the fish. The eye pop was perhaps the most unexpected effect. The gutting part was another part of the show it seemed. She was mildly glad she didn't have that responsibility, it wasn't like working with dough or baking, that's for sure.

She opened her drink and make a quick face as she realized this wasn't exactly juice or water, taking another look at the Island Cooler in her hands.

"Uhm, I think one each is enough but it might be good to catch more," she said as she cast a glance at Mir, recalling how much he enjoyed his fish. She made her way to the other fishing rod and took it in her hands. "Sure, I can give it a try."

Silas handed it over and took a step to the side. Hopefully Esla would be as lucky with fishing as him.

"Well, I suppose it's good we have a lot of time then. Well, fir fishing at least." This was kind of a free day after all.

[Esla Tor]

Esla took the rod into her hands and fiddled with the lure before casting it into the oceans. Now it was the girl's turn it seemed. She didn't worry too much about its positioning or distance. This was more luck-based, right? "That's right...I don't think they'll have too many places for fishing on Ilum...unless there are fish under the ice there?"

[Mir]

"One for each of us? Depends. How hungry are you? Uh...and is it good all raw like that?" Even Zanja sounded a little doubtful, holding the rod she'd just re-cast but paying more attention to the fish-cleaning procedure. She might need to clean a fish herself sometime, after all.

"Mossht humansh thend to thinsh thatsh the headshs ishs a washte. Ish delish." Mir explained, gulping down of what remained of the head. "Raw, cooked, same difference." he looked at Zanja, blinking his eyes behind his shades before glancing at the pile of guts. Tossing the fish at Silas with "Catch!" he began to paw through the bloody entrails. "Liverpy-liverpy, where are you hiding..." the young farhul hummed happily to himself as he tried to locate a particular morsel among the stinking guts.

"Just tug your pole gently, makes them think your bait is alive." Mir sagely advised the fishers even as he reached and plucked the fish liver into his mouth, suckling it happily. "Now you need to scale the fishy. Do you know how to scale the fishy Silas?"

The tossed fish was unexpected, but silas maaged to catch it Though not without getting a bit of fish blood on his chest and hands, at least that should wash off in the ocean though. "All the fish I've ever had come without scales."

"So I guess I'm going to need a bit of advice on that?" It couldn't be too hard though? right?"

[Zanja]

"Huh. Dibs on the liver if I catch one." Zanja tugged on her pole, jiggling the line experimentally. The fish blood that probably just smelled, well, fishy to the two humans had piqued her more carnivorous senses.

Watching out past the end of her line, she was the first to notice something bigger low in the water out toward the horizon. "Hey, what's that? Looks like either a big fish, or a small boat..."

[Mir]

"Just hand the fishy." Mir sighed, he extended his bloodstained paw to Silas even as he reached for his knife. "And watch." Zanja's notion cause his ears to perk. "Ooh that is a big-big fishy. We gonna need a way bigger rod. Or heavy blaster. Boom." Opening his eyes wider, Mir tilted his head to the side. "Or then it is a boat - a fish shaped boat. What do you think?"

"I'm not sure why anyone would make a fish shaped boat?" It seemed a silly idea to Silas at least, and probably more then a little impractical too. Even more impractical then fishing with a blaster rifle.

"That reminds me, have you every fished with a heavy blaster, Mir?" Silas asked as he moved towards the Farghul so he could watch hi demonstrate scaling a fish.

[Mir]

"Nope." Mir shook his head even as he pinned the fish against the rocks and brought his knife against the scales and began to scrape them off. "But I figure you point the heavy blaster at the fish and pull the trigger." he shrugged as if that was obvious.

"I guess that could work." He really wasn't sure how well though. "Maybe a speargun or something would be better though? Then you could attach a line to it and pull the fish in after you shoot it?"

Mir's movements were practiced but after a few moments Silas gave a nod. "I think I can finish that up."

[Zanja]

A plume of white spray from the vicinity of the distant fish/boat/fish-shaped boat lent some weight to the "fish" hypothesis. Meanwhile, Zanja continued to jiggle her line, hoping for a more manageable-sized catch. How long does this take, anyway?

"Dunno if you can shoot stuff under water with an energy blaster," she pointed out, apparently seriously considering the idea of blaster-fishing. "Maybe a stun grenade...?"

It was a bit strange to see Mir so enthusiastic with fish but she supposed this was his niche and natural habitat. She turned her attention back to fish and bobbed her lure on the waters to follow Mir's advice. It didn't seem like she was too successful in catching something yet, Silas made it look so easy.

"Mmm...That seems like cheating," she murmured.

"I think the locals would be pretty mad at us if we tried to." Not that it probably wouldn't work. Taking the tools from Mir, Silas carefully started scaling the fish, it was tough work, but he could manage.
