EVENT: Are You Afraid Of The Dark? (D7, MN, Limited)

Location: Erkeere Ridge
Participants: Up to 4 PCs. For those who wish to answer the call of the Dark Side...

Local legends of Erkeere Ridge says it has in the past been the site of ancient Sith rituals, but that is probably superstition...

Right?

Maybe it is true, as you feel a call to one of its peaks. Like a shadow in your soul is urging you to answer the call of the dark.

This Event will close when the maximum of 4 PCs have entered, or 24 hours have passed (whichever comes first). If no one answers the call of the Dark Side, the Event fizzles.

[O'vala Aeser]

O'nera. O'nera. O'nera. The stronger sister. The kinder sister. The sister who should be alive instead. Nothing could shake these beliefs out of O'vala. There were temporary reliefs, solaces even, in the company of others. But the Vergeance had wracked her and now she was here, chasing the part of her that she didn't very much like.

She wasn't sure if she was here to destroy whatever darkness lied here or to give into temptation. Both her blade and pistol were in hand but her will wasn't quite there.

[Zanja]

You wouldn't leave a nexu cub to be raised by nerfs, after all. That was a lie, or anyway it was the Dark Side vergence twisting everything around the way everybody said the Dark Side would. But she'd felt the wildness up here on the ridge before, climbing with Ares, and if she didn't exactly want to embrace it, she did want to face it. That was what Jedi were supposed to do, right? You couldn't guard against the darkness if you couldn't even look at it.

What Zanja couldn't articulate to herself was how strange it had been, down in the cave, to realize her greatest fears were so--well, not small, exactly. But person-scale, and nearly impossible to confront head-on. She'd always had great physical courage, and the sense that, when it came to what she feared most, this made no difference whatsoever was an unsettling one. Climbing a steep slope in the semi-dark to an ancient dark ritual site, now that was something she most definitely could confront with sheer energy and strength.

Ares knew that he was dancing on the edge. That wan't new information.

The vision though.... could he do the same thing if it came to it? Or would he be overwhelmed? He acted tough, but the thought of Ayura dying, of him facing Jaina again....his blood was burning.

The pull of the Dark Side is strong, leading you in the direction of a natural cave opening in the mountains... the feeling of dread and danger permeates the air.

Characters must roll Cool (Presence) or Discipline (Willpower) against Fear, Average difficulty (◆◆) with one upgraded die (turning one purple into a red).

Success means you can continue. Failure allows you to continue with the usual penalties. A Despair on a failed roll means that fear takes over and you run away, and cannot continue in this scene. Despair on a successful roll allows you to continue, at a risk...

O'vala approached the cave entrance without pause. "Don't let up," she said to the others. Perhaps that was encouraging, in some way.

"Oh, kriff, this again," Zanja muttered to herself as she ducked into the cave behind O'vala. She was beginning to seriously dislike the smell of caves, and she felt an incipient chill down her spine even though she hadn't yet actually left the night air behind her.

Ares felt a shiver run through his spine, and his spirits falter... but he marched on.

OOC: Ares and Zanja will suffer 1 Setback due to fear during the rest of the scene. Ares' advantages will give everyone a Boost to their first skill check after this.

As you continue in, it's not just dread you sense... it's death. The stench of death and decay is palpable in here, but the reflections of light further in gives you a clue that someone is still here. A purpleish light that cast strange shadows down the cavernous corridors.

Ares pulled his blades snd started moving forward sloely, trying to see ehat was casting the light.

They could hear the voice before seeing the figure, but the voice of the Sith Lord Destrus was recognizable.



"Ah, I sense I have visitors in pursuit of knowledge. Marvelous," the voice tries to convey a sense of warmth, but just feels inhuman. "Do come in, please."

[O'vala Aeser]

"You again. I should have known." Her tone was unwelcoming, but not necessarily hostile. "Shame I missed dinner the other evening."

[Faily]

As they step into the room, they can see the tall Sith lord surrounded by a circle of blood. There are no bodies to be seen. The room itself seemed to be carved from the stone with ancient petroglyphs adorning its walls.

"A pity indeed. I would have enjoyed to meet someone so ambitious earlier," he gestured casually to his surroundings. "Do come in, there is no need to be shy when it comes to seeking knowledge. For where else to learn of power than in these ancient grounds that the ancestors of the Jedi and Sith believed to be sacred?"

[Zanja]

“Ugh,” Zanja murmured under her breath, tugging a fold of her robe up over her mouth and nose as the three ventured deeper into the cave.

"Should have known that's who I was smelling." Resting Zabrak Face struck again. "Whose blood is that, anyway?"

"No one important," he calmly folded his hands behind his back, almost taking the posture of a teacher as the children enter the classroom.

"You came here because you heard the Dark side calling to you, did you not? There is so much to learn here... and so much of it I can teach you. If you are clever enough to learn, that is. Already one in your group that came to Auratera has decided to learn at my feet to reach their full potential."

[Zanja]

"If that was my blood I'd think it was pretty important." Zanja grimaced. "Personally."

[Ares Pax]

"What the slag happened here?" Ares' voice rose as he spoke. He was sweating. "Is wanton murder our lesson for today?"

[Faily]

"Wanton murder? Hardly," he seemed amused at the reactions. "If it is violence you want, I could entertain you. Pain is a powerful teacher, after all..."

[O'vala Aeser]

"I heard the call, but that does not mean I was heeding it." O'vala looked at the blood. "I thought this sort of thing was outdated."

[Faily]

"It is, but alas, Sith alchemy still follows many outdated requirements that have not yet caught up with the times," he looked briefly at the mess before looking back to the trio of students. "How amusing, little sister... to claim you have not heeded its call when you are standing here. Even at the doorstep to darkness, you're denying the deep shadows within yourself."
