“Because no being should be enslaved,” she answered, her gaze firm on the Sith lord’s mask, waiting to hear his rebuttal. Or to be told by the Masters to show some respect, whichever came first.

"Oh?" There seemed to be some amusement to the voice. "Does that count for animals kept as pets or as exhibits in a zoo too?"

Re: [D6 LM] The Colour Purple
Trying to put in her best performance for the Masters accompanying, Eir managed not to roll her eyes or say something childish. “Pets and zoos, proper zoos,” she’d read about the dark days of cramped, sterile enclosures that had fallen out of favour as societies grew to the understanding that spending money on valuable animals wasn’t a waste, “are not enslaved.” She’d actually expected this question from the Sith. “Not only are they well provided and cared for, many types of pets are no longer suited to surviving without us. And the vast majority of captive animals were bred in captivity and rely upon us.”
“It is certainly less ideal for a non-domesticated species to live in captivity, but for those born to it, it is certainly a better life than dying of hunger or predation in their natural habitat.” She spoke with confidence, but a lack of experience that was reminiscent of reciting from a text in class. “Unless you are referring to animal trafficking, which is as abhorrent as sentient trafficking.”
She wished Corvin had been present to hear that, she was sure he’d be proud.

"Ah, so if it is bred in captivity to rely on its captors, then it is no issue then. What a clever way to think of it," again the tone was equally patronizing and praising. "One could say that these off-shot Arkanians are born in captivity, and well, they kind of rely upon their creators as their lifespans are rather short. It is an interesting advancement they have done, but I would consider it... a bit crude, in some points. It needs refinement. So far, nothing surpasses the, shall we say, traditional way of creating new life."

Eir scowled, and made a mental note about adding the role of sentience to her argument next time. “That’s hardly the same thing,” the girl retorted, “domestication is mutually beneficial. And zoo animals aren’t forced into labour against their will. They did not choose to be born in captivity, but their caretakers make every effort to ensure they are healthy, including their mental and social enrichment.”
Between pop culture, natural curiosity, some medical training, and mostly unfettered access to the Jedi Archives, Eir knew enough about Sex to take Destrus’ meaning. She frowned, it seemed that the Sith was suggesting that these slaves were being forced to copulate for their owner’s benefit. That aside, “why would you call it an advancement if they are so short lived? Scratch that,” she tried again, “how is it an advancement to undo millennial of evolution and intentionally set back an entire subset of your population?”

His arms stretched as he spoke. "Why, it is a remarkable advancement of bio-technology. The Arkanians were not bound by scruples in fulfilling a need for their people; they lacked the number of people needed to work for their world and rather than rely on inelegant machines, they engineered people instead of droids," he spoke with some fervor in his otherwise monotone voice. "Alas, their secrets have escaped me so far, but Arkanian in my experience is very adaptable and strong to cross with other species."
"Ah, that reminds me..." the purple light looked more in the direction of the masters now. "Wasn't there an exceptional Arkanian Jedi by the name of Sembylus only some years ago? I do wonder what became of him."

"I think this line of discussion has gone on about as far as it can." Orgus said. His tone was stern, almost sharp. "Eir needs to spend time in meditation for her trials."
He stepped forward, inclining his head. "Thank you again for the hospitality." His attitude brooked no dissent.

"Perhaps that will be a mystery answered for another time, child," she saw the light turned to her again briefly before it looked back to the masters with a nod. "Of course... it is such an important part of the trials in this part of the training. I do hope you will have a most satisfactory experience with it, Eir."

Eir looked up at Master Orgus, “of course,” she answered sullenly. She hadn’t seen another arkanian Jedi before, and she want to know more about this Sembylus, she didn’t see any harm in that. Maybe he died fighting the Sith, the girl figured.
“Thank you, Lord Destrus,” she hadn’t seen anywhere near as much of the Temple as she would of liked, and didn’t even get any holos.
