[D7 EA] I Wasn't Done

“I see,” she had guessed that might be the case, “and was he strong enough?”

[Faily]

"Oh, he was very strong. The results he produced were quite marvelous," he almost seemed to give a wistful sigh. "But, that is all I will say about him for now. At least, until you have made a decision, child."

[Eir]

There was a moment of confusion, you already know my decision, but no, that had been the vision of Destrus. She would just have to tell him again, "I do not believe one can cheat their way to power, Lord Destrus. Your offer is quite generous," she'd heard the rumours, lose one apprentice, gain another, "but I must decline."

[Faily]

An eerie laughter echoed from behind the mask. "Cheat? Oh my, how droll... is it cheating to reap the rewards of knowledge and progress?"

[Eir]

"I would suggest it depends on how you do so. If I have seen further, it is only because I have stood upon the shoulders of giants," she quoted, one of the Masters had said that once, or something. Eir glanced about the room, wondering what Destrus had been doing down here before she arrived. Was he waiting for me? the thought sat uncomfortably on her shoulders.

"Thank you for answering my question, but I think it is time for me to go."

[Faily]

"A pity, I would have expected more... drive, from someone like you," he said with a hollow chuckle. "I will not stop you, of course, but I do not think you will find the answers you may want from the Jedi. They spend too much time coddling you from unpleasant truths. Why else would master Orgus call the meeting short yesterday?"

[Eir]

"I refuse because I have drive, Lord Destrus. I have the drive to build a destiny from my own hands, not from handouts. Surely you can understand," she didn't answer the question about Orgus, because she agreed that he had been hiding Sembylus' fate from her, and that he shouldn't have.

[Faily]

"Do you now?" it didn't seem like he believed her. "I find it doubtful. Ah, well... perhaps you were just a failure, after all. I shall have to do things differently the next time."

[Eir]

Eir's jaw tightened as the Sith needled her, pushing her buttons with unerring ease. Well, I'll just have to show him, too, but Eir had learnt that when she couldn't control her reactions, she could control her actions, and she kept her hands from balling into little fists. Folding her arms and tucking her hands into her sleeves, "then I shall take my leave."

[Faily]

"The way out is open," Destrus gestured to the corridor behind her. "Perhaps we will meet again. I would look forward to it."

[Eir]

"I'm sure we'll see each other again," when I'm ready to prove you wrong, she bowed her head in a vaguely respectful gesture, as she would when ending a conversation with the Masters, or anyone older than her, really. She turned, determined to actually leave this time.

[Faily]

The purple light at her back did not move as she walked away through the narrow corridors, and the Sith lord silently watched her leave even if it felt like he was silently laughing at her.

But, no one would stop her from leaving. The way out was clear.

[Eir]

The skin between her shoulders prickled as she walked away. She hated being watched, and she hated that the feeling didn't fade until she was a fair distance from the Sith Temple.
