[Orgus Din]

"Good morning, Silas." Master Orgus greeting him as he walked casually into the room. "I hope you're doing well today."

[Silas Myles Pearson]

Lying really wasn't a good thing and after offering the Master a polite smile, he spoke. "I'm okay, though honestly I'm a bit disappointed in my performance in the last test."

"I hope you are well though, Master Din."

[Orgus Din]

"I am, thank you." Orgus said evenly. "And don't feel too disappointed. Just try to make sure that you learned something, and that you keep up with your studies."

"So. With that in mind..." Orgus frowned thoughtfully. "What would you say is the primary duty of the Jedi?"

[Silas Myles Pearson]

"Yes, Master." Silas offered with a nod. Studying about some things could be a bit boring, bu there were a lof of cool things out there.

"The Primary duty of the Jedi?" He paused thoughtfully. "I'd say it's to protect people, from the things that would bring them harm, and to defend the Republic hen it is in danger."

[Orgus Din]

"Okay, sounds good. Protecting people is important." He gave Silas a nod. "How?"

[Silas Myles Pearson]

Silas paused thoughtfully. "I suppose that really depends on what kind of trouble they are in. There really isn't one catch all way to protect everyone."

[Orgus Din]

"No? Too bad." Orgus said. "That'd probably make things a lot easier."

He spread his arms. "So... what do Jedi do? That's what I'm trying to get at, here."

[Silas Myles Pearson]

"It would, wouldn't i!" Silas grinned. "Instead though we have a galaxy full where protecting one person might mean endangering others."

He shook his head to dismiss the train of thought as the Master asked his next question. "I think that's dependent on the Jedi. A Sentinel might do things a bit different then say a Msytic. In general though I think we try to make the galaxy a better place."

[Orgus Din]

"Okay." Orgus nodded encouragingly. "So what do you think you're going to do? Tell me about how Silas is going to make the galaxy a better place. Where's your first duty?"

[Silas Myles Pearson]

"I thought it would be learning from whatever knight I was assigned too." He offered after a moment, betraying a little the fact that he hadn't given in all that much thought. "But I suppose it would be defending the Republic from the Sith, and helping to repaor the infrastructure of the worlds ravaged by war."

[Orgus Din]

"You will be assigned a knight, yes." Orgus nodded confirmation. "And they'll train you."

He smiled. "But it sounds like you have some ideas of your own. Defend the Republic, and repair the damage of the war." His eyebrows went up. "So... how do you go about those things? Give me a day in the life of Silas Pearson, Jedi Knight."

[Silas Myles Pearson]

Silas looked at the master for a few moments. "You like to ask weird questions Master Din, ones that really don't have answers." The young mans hand drifted up to scratch as a place behind his ear as he considered the question. "well, I suppose it'd start with waking up, and getting ready for the day. You know, use the bathroom, have breakfast, get dressed, practice my forms. Stuff like that. Then say it's a normal day and I'm not off rescuing damsels in distress of something I'd go to a place that needs fixing.

Maybe a water treatment facility or something? That was damaged in the war. Or attacked by raiders or something. I'd lend a hand with getting it put together and working as fast as possible, then maybe look into ways to better it's defenses People can die real fast if they don't have the proper facilities for water and stuff like that after all."

"Then I'd go back to my ship, and if I was done on that planet i'd check for recent signs of attack or war, and move along to the next place I could help."

[Orgus Din]

"Do I?" Orgus' eyebrows went up. "Wasn't that an answer? Don't answer that one." He said. "But really, I'm less interested in answers, and more in what you have to say about these things."

He looked thoughtful for a few moments. "So, can you tell me what the difference between you and, I don't know, a benevolent traveling mechanic would be?"

[Silas Myles Pearson]

He couldn't help but grin at Master Din's first question, but he was told not to answer it so he he didn't reply to that. "On the day to say I wouldn't say there would be all that many. Outside my skills and the abilities I have with the force at least."

"But I don't really think that's necessarily a bad thing either. You don't need to go around bashing people's heads in and swinging around a lightsaber to help them. Would there be better ways to use my skills? Maybe, but I have trouble thinking of all that many of them. Of course that's probably my lack of experience with the galaxy showing, at least in part."

[Orgus Din]

"Well, you'll get your chance." Orgus said. "After all, we've got some big travel plans coming up."

His expression grew more serious. And almost sad. "But Silas... I want you to really think about the differences. The mechanic doesn't need to worry about being an ambassador to everyone he meets. Missions have failed, and people have died, because locals didn't trust Jedi enough."

He went on. "The mechanic can have friends, can even have lovers, and never worry that this one is too close. That when this one dies or leaves him, it'll push him over the edge, and he won't just be sad, he'll turn into a monster."

He gave Silas a gentle smile. "That, and more. Just something to think about."

Silas nodded, what the Master said made sense, it really did, but it did bring up a camera. "But why dont they trust the jedi?" Silas offered after a moment.

"It really doesnt make a lot of sense to me."

[Orgus Din]

"Well..." Orgus frowned thoughtfully. "There can be a lot of reasons. The Order's been around a long time, and sometimes it's done some things that, well, we wouldn't do today. They used to forcibly take children from their parents. Some people think we still do."

He shook his head. "Some Jedi... well, they take the non-attachment thing too far. They're cold to people. And some of them think of a these things that make us different, and think that it means better. We do our best to catch that thing before it becomes a problem, but it doesn't always happen."

[Silas Myles Pearson]

"Why haven't we received some lessons on that then?" Silas asked after a moment. "It seems half of out job is being a ambassador for the order, so doesn't it make sense to have a few more lessons along the vein?" Maybe he had just missed them?

""I suppose this is what the man on the freighter meant when he said I didn't really come off as most jedi though."

[Orgus Din]

"There are some." Orgus agreed. "But a lot of it is more teaching by example. It's why we eventually assign padawans to a single master."

His eyebrows went up. "Oh? That could be. What did this man say?"
