Re: [D3 MM] Debate Class - Eir
When Corvin gripped his chair, Eir broke her stillness, a hand raising to hover inches from his for a fraction of a heartbeat before retreating. She closed her eyes, shuttering the soft glow that came from them, forgiveness was a tricky subject, when speaking hypothetically, "I think I understand."
I've never been hurt like that, like you, she opened her eyes once more to regard the Knight's scars and grim demeanour, "forgiveness should not wipe away what was done. The past cannot be changed, but we must strive to do better, we have to remember."

"Yeah. That sounds about right." Corvin grunted. "And that way we'll be ready, next time."
A few moments, and he chuckled. "Seems like we see eye to eye on this stuff. Maybe that doesn't make it much of a debate. Don't suppose you, I don't know, hate animals or something? We could probably debate that." His lips curled up into a small smile.

Eir’s cheeks burned at the unexpected smile from the Handsome Knight and she stumbled over her words for a bit, “well, uh, I do have a particular dislike for lice.” Her stomach collapsed like a stone, good going, idiot, that’s gross.

Corvin chuckled again. "Hey. I've spent weeks in the wilderness. Believe me, I'm not fond of lice, either."
He shook his head. "Well... so, if you do pass the trials..." He looked thoughtful. "What kind of Jedi do you think you'll be? I mean, you'll get a master. But everyone gets to decide for themselves, as least a bit." He grimaced. "I guess this is the 'where do you see yourself in ten years' question that people joke about in job interviews."

When you're only fourteen, ten years seems like an entire lifetime away. His grimace had not been lost on her, though, and after grappling with what seemed like a monumental question, she changed tack. "What did you aspire to be, Knight Corvin? when you were going through the trials?"

Corvin grunted, but it was clear that he was amused. "Turn the question around, huh? Okay. I'll play along."
He sat back a little bit, straighter, pushing away with his resting arms. He was silent for a time, his expression thoughtful. "Now, when I was in training, the Sith were a pretty big deal. They attacked not long after I started training." Other people might have drummed their fingers as they thought. Not Corvin; he was perfectly still.
He went on. "I wanted to do my part, but in the way I did best. My training started here, but most of it was on Ithor. I was more comfortable there. Even with all the mud." He chuckled. "Eventually, maybe especially. Jedi do what they must, but I knew that not all of 'em would happily crawl through belly-deep mud to reach their goal. I would." He shrugged. "So, I wanted to be the one to do that sort of thing. So someone less suited wouldn't have to."

There was a hint of a smile at Corvin's crooked answer, "you wanted to fight the Sith, and you did." For the second time since Corvin entered the room, Eir moved, indicating to the scars on Corvin's face with a gesture of her clawed fingers. "But the Sith are not our enemies, and I'm not a warrior." She paused to think on this for a time, "but I'm not a diplomat or a politician, either. I want to help people, the less fortunate, but I'm not sure how."

"I did." Corvin said, his voice rough. "And they're not." Eir could almost hear the for now beneath that.
He grunted. "So. What does your instinct tell you? If it tells you something, you should trust it."

The girl's insides squirmed with feelings, it was all very confusing and conflicting. She heard the unspoken implication, the spine-tingling coarseness in his voice. She let her sense flow out from her, seeking the deeper nuances, but not finding them. "My instinct?" she sighed, "only tells me that my destiny is out there. There are so many people who need help."

"Huh." Corvin crossed his arms. "Maybe that means you just need to listen differently."
He smiled, again, very faintly. "Master Chriala can figure stuff out by meditating. I have to go out and do things. Which one is more like you?"

"I think I need to do, at least, that's what I feel more," she tripped over the right word, confident? assured? "useful doing," she finished lamely.

Corvin nodded, punctuating the gesture with a grunt. "Well, you'll get plenty of opportunity for that. Both with the upcoming trials, and then after, with whatever master you're assigned to. You'll figure it out." He gave her a nod. "Assuming you pass, of course." Hopefully not undercutting his encouragement too much.

"Yeah." Corvin grunted. "That sounds about right."
After a few moments, he tossed up his hands. "Whatever. Debate over. I was never much for them, anyway. Congratulations, you did great." Another almost-smile.
He leaned forward again, resting his arms on the back of the chair. "We can just chat about whatever for the rest of the time, I guess. Uhhh..." He shrugged. "Tell me about yourself."

With her insides doing flip-flops, Eir chewed on her lip, "there isn't a whole lot to tell. I know that most of the younglings were, uh, discovered very young, and this temple has been their entire life. I bet it was nice, having a home and a- a family, and stuff."

Corvin frowned thoughtfully. "I guess. It really depends on the home. I was pretty young when I came here. It didn't quite work for me. Ithor, though, that was better."
He gave her a curious look. "You've been here a while, haven't you?" He looked like he wanted to ask more, but didn't quite.

Eir murmured, “mm-hmm. Nine years. I was born on—” for a moment, she was going to say the first thing that popped into her head, but that would a bald-faced lie, “well, that doesn’t matter. I didn’t like it, so I left. I ended up on Coruscant, without any place to go, so I roughed for a little while, until Master Chriala found me. At first I was glad for a soft bed to sleep in, but the lessons mostly turned out to be really interesting, especially Galactic Lore and lightsaber combat.”

Curiousity briefly lit Corvin's brown eyes at the shift, but he didn't press. After all, he valued his own privacy.
He grunted. "Master Chriala. That makes sense. She's a good sort. I mean, most Jedi are." He shrugged. "I get along with her better than most."

Corvin grunted acknowledgement, his gaze also going distant.
He shook his head. "Are you hoping that she's gonna be your master, then? After all this is done? A good master, one you connect with... it makes a big difference, I think."
