Horticulture 101 (D1, EA) [Open]

[Faily]

"Oh... I see... I thought maybe you had since you know so much," he nodded a little. "There's lots of farms back home, but I've never done the... farming thing."

The Zabrak hummed. "Working on a farm sounds nice though. Fresh water, and nice soft earth like this."

[Silas Myles Pearson]

"Is that so? Well then, what are you going to do with the seeds?" inquired the old master.

"Plant them." The Auburn haired boy replied. "Once I find a good place them at least."

[Eir]

Nodding, "perhaps that is the will of the Force for you," she told the zabrak, there is a great deal of good that can be done working in the soil." Perhaps one day he'd return to where he'd been born, laden with his new knowledge of irrigation and agriculture. It didn't sound like a bad future, really.

[Zizzy Roosh]

Zizzy had been working away at the back of the class. She loved nature and was having a wonderful time digging around in the soil of a tiny, but seemingly old, tree seedling.

"Ooh, Master! I found a tiny mushroom. I think this little tree has mycorrhizas."

[Silas Myles Pearson]

Zizzy got a smile when she brought up Mycorrhizas, it wasn't all that unusual, but it would be cool for the younglings to see it.

Mushrooms were cool, right?

[Faily]

"Maybe? I think I'd like that," the zabrak agreed with Eir, smiling gently at the thought.



"Oh, is that so, little one?" Reikiss mused and slithered over to Zizzy to inspect her finding. "It does indeed appear to be the case. And it seems to be a beneficial relationship too."

He stroked his beard once more. "As it should be between a Jedi and the Force - a beneficial symbiotic relationship. Now, can anyone elaborate further on the meaning of a symbiotic relationship?"

[Silas Myles Pearson]

"Symbiotic, or Symbiosis is one two species live together." Salis offered to the class. "Kinda like how we all live in dorms together, but really a lot closer then that. There are a couple different kinds too. Good ones, like the one with this tree and mushroom, Okay one's where they don't hurt each other, and bad one's where one hurts the other." There was a lot more too it then that too, but Silas didn't want to get into matters too deeply.

[Zizzy Roosh]

Zizzy's hand shot up. "It's like a spectrum. Both can benefit, that's a mutualism, one can benefit, that's a commensalism, and one can benefit while the other one is penalised, that's parasitism." She gave Silas a warm smile, pleased that he was interested in this stuff too.

Silas returned the smile, maybe he should of used some of the big sciencey words too. Would that have made him sound as smart as Zizzy?

Well, it was too late now.

[Faily]

"Very good, both of you," the serpentine master said to both Silas and Zizzy.

"Parasitism is an apt word for it too. While we consider the Jedi's connection to the Force to be a beneficial symbiose, the Sith could be described more as parasitic in their approach to the Force."

[Eir]

Eir had made a little motion with her head that the kids she'd been talking to should pay attention to Zizzy and Silas. She was listening herself, though she had nothing to add.

[Silas Myles Pearson]

"Very good, both of you," the serpentine master said to both Silas and Zizzy.

"So taking what they need without any regard to the harm they might do?" Silas asked, though it was mostly for the benefit of the younger students in the class.

[Faily]

"Yes, very much so, young Pearson," Reikiss acknowledged Silas' reply with a nod. The children also paid close attention, as they were used to having to do when the old master spoke.

"The Sith do not consider living in harmony with the Force - they only seek to use it to meet their own needs, whatever it may be."

[Silas Myles Pearson]

Silas brought his hand to his chin thoughtfully, a small part of him mourning the fact that he still couldn't grow any sort of facial hair.

"Could you make a similar comparison to the common criminal, and how they prey upon the general populace? Or would you compare that to a different type of phenomenon found in nature?" Big word get!

[Faily]

"Certainly, I think such comparisons can be used for society as well. Criminals, and some would say politicians too, are parasites on the common populace," the master said certainly.

[Silas Myles Pearson]

"Politicians?" Silas asked. "I thought they were supposed to help people?" Or that's what he had always assumed.

[Faily]

"Some do. Many are only in it for power," Reikiss scoffed. "Many of them line their own pockets for their own gains, rather than helping the ones they're supposed to represent."

[Silas Myles Pearson]

Silas nodded, setting that piece of information aside for a later date. "So be wary of them as many seek power for powers sake?" He asked, though it seemed the topic had strayed a fair distance from plants and worms and dirt.

[Faily]

"That is my advice to you, and all you young ones," he murmured in his beard. "Be very of the ambitious people you meet."

[Zizzy Roosh]

"Thank you for the advice Master. I hadn't thought about Politicians being like parasites before. I hope some of them are mutualists though..." She looked back down at her tiny but seemingly ancient tree. It felt like time to change the subject. "What planet does this species come from? I've never seen one before."
