EVENT: Test of Knowledge (Day 3, Mid-Morning) [Mandatory]

#1 Postby Faily » Sun Jan 20, 2019 10:54 pm

Test of Knowledge

"Jedi seek to improve themselves through knowledge and training."

Day: 3
Time: Mid-Morning
Location: Jedi Archives - Tower of First Knowledge, Jedi Temple (Coruscant)
You all gather in the Jedi Archives, and the teachers along with the head librarian are ready to test you on your knowledge and understanding of both the Jedi Order and the Galaxy.

Image
The Librarian is a fair and just observer, but no cheating will be tolerated on this. There will be no options for cheating on this test

Part 1: Pop Quiz!
GM Note: All rolls uses the Intellect Characteristic unless otherwise specified.

The test start off lightly with a simple quiz for you to fill in. Advantages can be used to Boost your next roll (2 advantages for 1 Boost), while Threat gives Setback (2 threat for 1 Setback). Triumph means your answer is very in-depth and count as two correct answers, while Despair reduces your overall score by one.

1. Recite the Jedi Code - Lore or Education against Easy difficulty (◆). All gain a Boost die to this roll from your training.

2. What is a Force Vergence? - Lore or Education against Easy difficulty (◆). Those with a Force Bloodline gain a Boost die to this roll from their background.

3. What is a Holocron? - Lore against Average difficulty (◆◆). Mystics gain a Boost die to this roll.

4. List the seven Lightsaber Forms of the Jedi Order - Warfare against Average difficulty (◆◆). Warriors and Guardians gain a Boost die to this roll

5. What is considered to be the founding act of the Republic? - Education or Knowledge (Core Worlds) against Average difficulty (◆◆). Consulars gain a Boost die to this roll.

6. Which planet is considered to be the homeworld of the Sith race? - Knowledge (Outer Rim) against Average difficulty (◆◆) with one Setback. Seekers gain a Boost die to this roll.

7. Name three well-known criminal organizations - Knowledge (Underworld) or Streetwise (Cunning) against Hard difficulty (◆◆◆) with one Setback. Sentinels or those with a Criminal Background gain a Boost die to this roll.

Bonus Question: What creature is able to resist the Force? - Knowledge (Xenology) or Survival against Daunting difficulty (◆◆◆◆).
Note: If successful on this bonus question, keep your Early Evening-slot open!!

Results:
0-1 correct answers, stay in the archives the next timeslot for some extra tutoring.
2-4 correct answers, passable. The teachers see there is room for growth, but you got most of it down. Recieve a text related to one of your failed questions to read up on.
5-6 correct answers, very good! The teachers are impressed and you gain a text on the subject of your choice for further reading.
7+ correct answers, excellent! The teachers as well as the librarian are very satisfied with your skill, and the librarian rewards you with one of her favorite texts.

Part 2: Debate!
Each student will be given time alone with one of the teachers (Orgus, Jaric, Murah, Corvin, Farissa, or Chriala) to engage them in some one-on-one talk after they have finished their pop-quiz. The results of your pop quiz will be known to you and the teachers at this point.

No rolling required here. This is purely up to roleplay. Make a separate thread and link to it in this thread, and await your debate-partner...

#3 Postby Eir » Sun Jan 20, 2019 11:59 pm

The first question was straight-forward enough, and Eir was able to recite the 'new' code that the Masters expected to hear, though in the back of her mind, she was really thinking about the 'old' code that she preferred. The second question also came relatively easily to the girl, outlining the basics of Force Vergences, and feeling pretty good about the questions so far, but not cocky enough to get ahead of herself.

She answered the question about holocrons, starting to get suspicious about why these particular questions were being asked, but Eir noticed she was getting distracted and refocused, moving on the the next topic. Unfortunately, she somehow got Shii-Cho and Makashi around the wrong way, and missed question four.

Politics was not her forte, and she was a little worried when the word Republic jumped out at her from question five, but the knowledge was in there, and she was in the right mind-space to dredge up the answer without too much trouble, providing a brief treatise on the signing of the Galactic Constitution and the role played by the Corellian Hyperdrive.

Now in a groove, she provided "Korriban," in answer to the sixth question, followed up with "Black Sun, Edge-9, and the Blank Look Gang" for the seventh. That just left the final question. Eir sat back and pondered for a time, eventually returning to her console and tentatively adding "ysalamiri" as her answer and hitting 'submit'.

The screen showed her score, and she was not exactly surprised at the results, more surprised at herself for managing not to completely blank out on the questions that were further from her areas of study, like the one on the Forms. She should have gotten that right. How annoying... Still, there was a whole second part to the exam waiting for her. The half-arkanian rose and went to the small room she was directed to, not in the least ready for her one-on-one.

Nervous, Mir took his seat and . He looked at the questions and swore internally, his ears flattening against his skull. Mir's tail curled against the leg of his chair as if he sought comfort from the solid mass of... of whatever they made the chairs from in the galaxy far away.

Then he looked at the first question. Right, I got this. Umm... Mir reached into his heart for answers. The Jedi code wasn't that hard, was it.

Peace, yet p̶e̶a̶c̶e̶ frak the evil guys.
Not knowing, yet knowing.
Passion, yet calm.
Confused, yet harmonious.
Dead, yet alive.

0 POINTS

Then he moved to the second question. Force Vengerence. Umm... Farissa sure mentioned this sometime. I wish I could remember when. Or what it meant.

Something in the Force. Not a Fish.

0 POINTS

At this point Mir was feeling pretty down, his ears hanging almost limp. This was way way harder than he'd expected it to be. But he pressed on. Third question! His ears perked. He was sure he knew this one!

Holocrons. Boxes with holograms where you store data.

The archivists took mercy on the young Farghul

1 POINT

Then he looked at fourth question. Oooh, this one's easy.

First form
Second form
Third form
Fourth form
Fifth form
Sixth form
Seventh form

Alas, being technically correct was not the best or the right kind of correct.

0 POINTS

Founding act... founding act. According to Master Mus or Master Reke. Uuuh... Mir scratched his ears in frustration.

When Somedude McGuy founded the Republic. Mus and Reke cannot agree on it.

0 POINTS

Homeworld of the Sith? Why should I care? Mir sighed and anyone able to Sense could have felt waves of despair coming from his console. He made an educated guess. It was poorly educated guess, but educated guess nonetheless.

Planet Sithus.

Name three criminal organisations? Mir wrinkled his nose. Why the jedi needed to know such things. The jedi were a force of good, ready to stomp on such people. In his mind the young farghul faced an evil crimelord that looked a bit like the head archivist. Evil, meet my saber! SABER! MEET! EVIL!

Ogon.
Some Ogon's friends.
And their friends.

Mir hoped that'd suffice. Alas.

0 POINTS

Then he got to the bonus question. Well, he didn't have a clue that such creatures even existed.

Not fish. But I'd want to take a bite out of it.

Resigned to his face, Mir closed his console and moved to find his debate partner.

Ares sat down nervously, looking over the console. The first question.... well, that one was easy! He typed in the right answer, confident as he moved on. Surely the next one will be similarly easy!

What the Force damn hell is a vergeance? He saw the seconds tock by, so he simply typed "a type of fish".

Okay, next one! Holocron. Well, that was easy!

It's corn made by technology. Easy-peasy.

Next up the lightsaber forms! Ares took a deep breath, and started writing a treatise... but then got hung up. Farissa did mention Djem So variant, but was that a separate form, or a part of Shien? Nervous, he made a note about 8 lightsaber forms.

The Republic was obviously founded when the Jedi Order was established! Or around that part.

Sith homeworld? Mayb Endor? He heard the natives were a bloodthirsty species capable of treachery.

Three well known criminal organizations! Well, the Black Sun was in the news a lot, alongside the Exchange. A third one...ah, obviously the Rodian Junk Cartel!

Animals that were resistant to Force powers? Mosquitoes. Easy-peasy.

#7 Postby Zizzy Roosh » Mon Jan 21, 2019 1:34 am

Compared to the previous day's event Zizzy get a lot more confident about this one. She wasn't the most scholarly student but she was no slouch when it came to ancient texts and such things. Her specialty was very much in the area of Lore and she felt confident that whatever happened this would see her safely through.

In response to the first question Zizzy recited the modern version of the Jedi code. She then recited the ancient version and finished by discussing the current state of academic thought on the differences between the two versions.

Question 2 was also simple. "A force vergence is a location in which the light or dark side of the force has become amplified. They can occur naturally, or as a result of a specific event or extended period of force activity."

The third was still right in her area of expertise. She explained that a holocron was a device in which a Jedi could imprint their thoughts, memories and experiences. It used the force to create a sort of personality template, referred to as a gatekeeper, that allowed a force sensitive person to access the stored Knowledge.

Having been reading about the forms she was surprised to find that she had gotten Juyo and Djem So mixed up. Or maybe it was because Shien now included both Shien and Djem So. Or something like that. She kicked herself for getting that one wrong.

The one about the founding act of the Republic drew a complete blank. She wasn't really a fan of politics and this particular piece of history was wrapped up in a lot a Republic flag-waving. "I'm sorry. I don't know the answer."

Then they asked her about the Sith homeworld. She instinctively replied "Ziost." But then realised it was just one of their main worlds. "It's Korriban isn't it. Oh well."

Fortunately her avid fangirling of Vera Hawke helped her to get the criminal underworld question right. "Let's see. Black Sun, The Hutt Cartel, and the Exchange." First appearing in Episodes 3, 11, and 15.

When it came to the bonus question she was racking her brain to recall what the creature was called. She had seen it in a textbook once. Try as she might she couldn't remember. "Well it looks like this:" she gave an accurate description, "but I can't remember the name." She hoped that being honest about it would at least get her some sympathy points.

When it was all over she had done well enough to be happy with her performance. After a moment's thought she asked for a textbook on Xenobiology and ecology.

O'vala smirked. The Jedi Code was easy! "There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no..."

Oh no.

"There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no... Ignorance! There is knowledge! There is no," she trailed off, tapping her chin. "Ignorance, emotion, passion... Hm..."

O'vala went onto the next question. This one was easier, if only because her mom sometimes took the family to vergences during their escapades through the galaxy. Right, I guess I did feel the Force while I was there.

For the next question, O'vala shrugged. "They're just like holovids. Easy."

Apparently, so was naming all of the forms. Hitting things with a stick was something she had grown accustomed to.

The founding act of the Republic. O'vala stared at the screen and then sighed. She pushed in "Act of the Republic" cause at least that had nice words in it.

O'vala then typed in Korriban without really thinking about it. That was where the cursed Sith had revealed themselves. At least, most recently.

For criminals, she wrote down the Black Sun, Crescent Shadow, and Mandalorians. Surely there was someone out there that was upset by the last one. Someone that would gladly use her teeth in a necklace. Or maybe someone who would punch her in the gut with a mechanical arm.

O'vala had no idea what the last question was so she just left it blank.

#9 Postby Taime Jorel » Mon Jan 21, 2019 4:08 am

Taime twiddled and bit his stylus as he answered the questions, wishing he'd spent more time on Lore instead of his lightsaber work. But it was too late now.

The first one wasn't so bad, that was something he'd known from training. But the second one baffled him. He felt like he should know what it was, but some of the vocab for the Force was so different from the little he remembered from his family and that Chriala had passed down to him. It was like translation sometimes and this time, it definitely wasn't working.

The third question, he felt like Chriala must have mentioned it at some point, as it came fairly easily. Maybe he'd been lucky to have her for a teacher, she did have some different knowledge aspects than some of the others. The 4th question, he'd thankfully committed to memory after that first lightsaber training day. He felt so embarrassed not being as conversant as all the rest with the forms, he'd sat up and memorized them until he could recite them in his sleep. It had paid off quicker than he'd assumed it would.

He thanked all the long transport rides with Chriala for his knowledge of the 5th answer. He'd been ravenous for knowledge of where he was going and how the Force was different as a child. Plainly, it had stuck with him. This had to be his home now, no matter how far away home felt most days.

The 6th answer....that had been a hard day of learning. He'd been out of balance all day, yelling and lashing out at Chriala, begging to go home. He'd said she was wrong to take him from his family and even lashed out with his burgeoning force powers. That day, Chriala had explained about the Sith and the Unhoned and why his family had asked her to take him from their homeworld. It was a day of deep shame for him, because he knew now how much of a threat he might have become to those who loved him. Every day, he sought to wipe that shame away and show them they had been right to send him, that this would work and he could one day return to them.

But it wasn't a happy memory by any means.

The last one, he had absolutely no notion on. He wrote random names and prayed that it didn't matter too much.

Wiping the sweat from his brow in the fresher afterwards after washing his face, he headed to the debate.

Re: EVENT: Test of Knowledge (Day 3, Mid-Morning) [Mandatory]

Zanja took a deep breath and opened the testing program. QUESTION ONE: RECITE THE JEDI CODE.

Easy. That's easy.
There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no fear, there is

She scowled at the screen, her mind blank. Come on, come on... that's not right...
There is no fear.
Fear leads to anger.
Anger leads to hate.
Hate leads to anger

Zanja stopped typing and glared again. That was wrong, but she'd wasted too much time on this question already, kriff it.

She rushed to the next question, reading much too quickly. WHAT IS A FORCE VERGENCE? Was this some kind of math question? Why? She bashed out "Vergence is when the sums of the terms in a series tend toward a limit. Force vergence is when a Force-sensitive person does the calculations" Yeah, fine, plausible enough.

Question Three was much easier for Zanja because of that one time she stole a holocron. Well, nearly. Totally wasn't her fault, by the way, but anyway, it did mean she'd actually handled one before and knew they were educational devices for recording the wisdom and personality of ancient Jedi.

Likewise, personal experience allowed her to scratch out passable answers listing the seven canonical lightsaber forms, and she managed to give a sketchy but accurate explanation of the relationship between the invention of the hyperdrive and the Republic's founding. The homeworld of the Sith was a stumper, and she sat scowling at the blank answer box for some time before eventually settling on "Korriban" after a mental coin-flip eliminated Ziost.

That left her rushing into the next question, which should have been an easy one. If she'd thought about it for a minute longer, she might have realized the Glass Knives, while impressive back on Zionolis, were not exactly on the same level as the Exchange and Black Sun--but nope, onward.

BONUS QUESTION: WHAT CREATURE IS ABLE TO RESIST THE FORCE? Now that's a weird question. But it tickled a memory from a hunting simulation hologame she'd played a lot of a while back. One of the harder levels pitted the player against a pack of vornskrs from the jungle planet Myrkr, carnivores who couldn't be fooled by most of the usual blinds because they hunted using a naive sensitivity to the Force. The game hadn't really simulated that very well, in Zanja's opinion, but the level had included the vornskrs' natural prey, which had evolved certain defenses...

Bloop. She pressed the confirm key for the last time and text scrolled across the screen. 5/8 CORRECT ANSWERS. Zanja flopped backward in her chair, limp with relief. That could have gone a lot worse.

Silas was a bit frazzled today, they hadn't been able to rescue Reg yesterday, and then there was the contest he had entered! They wanted him to show up and meet a bunch of pretty pop singers!? What did you wear for that? He most definitely didn't own anything appropriate, that was for sure.

Still he tried to calm himself with some deep breaths before sitting down to take the test. Why did all of this have to happen today? His frayed nerves ended up impacting the test too, and he certainly didn't do as well as he was hoping, even if he did manage to pass.

Esla had to admit that she felt rather anxious regarding this portion of the test. Perhaps most people would have assumed that someone as quiet and shy as her must have been very well read to make up for it. That was not the case and she found herself stumbling through the questions without much of a clue, dismissing them in a hurry so that she could perhaps be given one that she could finally answer with confidence. She had to do a lot of digging unfortunately before she found confident footing near the tail end of the test.

She sighed deeply after she finished the whole thing, passing the test with a very minimum grade that would avoid the embarrassment of staying behind. It wasn't great and nothing to be proud of but she would live another day to gain proper footing. However, that was only a reprieve to a far greater challenge. Would she do well in a test with less of a finite structure?
