Cautious Exploration (Day 8 Late Morning)

Silas didn't expect it to be thiis cold, he had been thinking a more average sort of cold, kinda like a fridgerator. This was completely different, still he had his thermal cloak and that at least kept him comfortable. The speeder ride here had taken awhile, but it seemed they'd almost arrived and looking at the other occupants he grinned.

"Do you think we'll find anythign interesting?"

"Why did we come here again?" O'vala asked, buried deep in her thermal cloak.

"Well, from what I've heard there is a old settlement here, I thought it might be pretty neat to have a look around." Exploring had also become something of a habit of his, perhaps one he needed to keep and check. "And it could give us a little insight into the nature of this planet, before well we start in on any tasks the masters might have."

[O'vala Aeser]

"Oh." O'vala crossed her arms. "Again, I didn't read the dang brochure." Her face lit up with a smile. "But, but, but! I was finally able to move things on the ship!"

Eir was more thermal cloak than person, bundled up until only her eyes were showing. It was cold and she did not like it at all. Still, Silas could be persuasive, and the promise of ruins was just too tempting.

"Oh." O'vala crossed her arms. "Again, I didn't read the dang brochure." Her face lit up with a smile. "But, but, but! I was finally able to move things on the ship!"

Byron nodded and said, "That is good to hear, every step forward is one to be celebrated."

He pulled the thermal cloak around him tightly.

"Every little step," O'vala said with a tired sigh. It had been a trying experience, the trials, and if O'vala had thought that herself, then she may have laughed at the word play. "I don't think I prepared myself for this cold though."

Byron shrugged and said, "I hear Hoth is worse."

"I think I'll pass on going to Hoth then." Silas murmured as he peered into the distance. "There it is! Our destination." He offered with a grin, as he pointed out the facility

The speeder would make shirt work of the remaining distance and soon the were let out. Free to explore or freeze or whatever it was they wished to do. "Well, should we get to it?" He asked the others as he started looking for a entrance.

"Wonder if it's colder or warmer inside?" Zanja speculated as she stomped carefully across the ice, her voice a bit threadier than usual in the cold.

"I'd speculate exactly the same? Unless somehow layers of ice amplify the chill." He wasn't sure ice really worked that way though. "I suppose either way we'll find out."

"Anyone else bring a climbing kit? Just in case?"

[Eir]

Eir carefully clambered down from the speeder, trying to as little warmth from escaping her robes as possible. She shook her head firmly in answer to Silas' question, looking around at the all the ice that was almost the same colour as her eyes.

"I got my gear. Never climbed on ice before, though." Zanja squinted up at the canyon walls with a speculative air. "There could be less wind inside? It's already calmer down here than up on the plateau."

"I'd wager on that." Wind didn't usually go blowing willy nilyl through houses.

"should we tie a rope between us then, just as a precaution? Or hold off on that for now?" That was a thinkg you did? Right?"

[Byron Mik]

"Shelter should provide respite from the chill," he said dryly.

[O'vala Aeser]

"I hope all those balance lessons pay off..."

"Well, they should." Silas murmured his eyes seeking a door.in the structure. Maybe that was it over there?

"Does that look like a entrance to you guys?" He asked, pointing out what he saw along the ice facade.

After some searching, Silas could find the outline of a door seeming to be a mixture of durasteel and stone. The stone probably helped it blend into the terrain more easily. However, it seemed ice had seeped in between the cracks and also frozen any electronic lock or controls.

Eir rummaged around in her rucksack for a moment, producing a cube of firepaste. Her voice was somewhat muffled by the layers of clothing. "We can try thaw it out."

"That might be the best plan." Silas replied with a smile. "If we can get to the controls, maybe they'll crack the rest of the ice when the door opens."
