[Day 8 - ME] Kerren is Sharing

“I know from… experience,” he said cryptically.

“It’s why I repeat it so much with you, figure if you hear it enough and see that I accept you, you may start to believe it. It’s an adjustment for everyone but you are not the first and you won’t be the last. If I can play a small part in your journey then then that is the least I can do.”

His lips were pressed into a thin line. "... thank you," he murmured quietly, looking back out the window for a moment.

"I'm just your friend Kerren, it's what I do," he said smiling as he ate more food.

"Friend, huh? I can't really say that I have done anything to be granted such level of trust... or do you just call everyone friend right away, Byron?" he mused thoughtfully.

“I consider everyone a friend until they give me reason to rethink that notion,” he said warmly.

[Kerren Sek]

"No doubt such a philosophy has come at a cost sometimes? I can't imagine people have not taken it for granted at some point," the pureblood retorted.

"If they do that says more about them than me," Byron replied.

"I may get burned but only for trying to be a good person, so I don't worry about it over much. People will let you down, sometimes that is just their nature, other times they just made a poor choice. Life is complicated like that, but it won't change me."

[Kerren Sek]

He scowled with a thoughtful look in his eyes. "It sounds like you've never been betrayed before with that kind of outlook."

“On the contrary, much of my young life was one betrayal after another… family that was supposed to look out for us just taking the money and running… friends we may selling us out for quick cash or just cause,” he said with a shrug.

“I don’t stay positive because life was easy, I smile because my life was hard. I was an angry kid, but in time as I grew to accept the Jedi way of life, I learned that the world is an awful place, and things are unfair… and fairness is not a natural state in the galaxy. That’s why we exist, to bring that balance, to care for others and to be the light in an ever-darkening place.”

He finished his food and added, “So yeah I have been betrayed, and it hurts, and it makes you angry. But the day I give up on others is the day I stop being the Jedi I was meant to be.”

The reply caught him unawares, and Kerren's eyes widened a little. "I see... I was mistaken then. My apologies."

He managed to crack a brief smile. "I guess when you say all these things to me, you at least have some experience to relate with. Well, not perfectly, but you understand how shit life can be sometimes."

“I can relate on some level yes, it can be really awful and overwhelming, and I am thankful that the Jedi took me inn, gave me. Chance to help others even if only in small ways,” he said honestly.

“Plus lightsabers are really cool.”

Kerren made a short snort of a laugh. "Yeah, lightsabers are cool. Have you been thinking much about the one you will construct?"

[Byron Mik]

"Not yet but now that we are here, it is on my mind," he said honestly. "I am looking forward to the chance to construct it and have a real symbol of being a Jedi."
